Urgent Cancer Referrals

Non-urgent advice: Your urgent 2 week appointment – This is to rule out cancer

Your GP has referred you to the hospital for an urgent appointment. This may be with a hospital specialist or to have a test.

This appointment should happen within 2 weeks. Most people will not have cancer but it is important we act quickly as early diagnosis and treatment improves outcomes.

Please ensure that your practice has your most up to date telephone number (including mobile) and address. This will ensure you receive all the appointment information.

Please inform the practice of any holiday dates in the next 2 weeks.

Please be as flexible as possible for the appointment time and location as it may be at Lancaster, Morecambe, Barrow, Ulverston or Kendal, or over the telephone. Please accept the first appointment offered to you.

What will happen now?

Your GP will send your information to the hospital.

The hospital will review the information and book your appointment, ensuring you are directed to the most appropriate service.

The hospital will aim contact you by telephone within 3 working days to book an appointment.

This appointment will be confirmed in a letter or text.

If you miss these telephone calls you will be sent a letter or text with details of an appointment.


If you are unable to attend the appointment please contact the hospital using the contact information in the letter.


If you do not hear from the hospital within 5 working days – please contact your GP or the hospital booking team on :
